EPROMs and MEMCALs
There are two basic types of memory chips in GM vehicles.
EPROMs
EPROMs are Programmable Read Only Memory chips in a plastic holder or
installation fixture. The memory type is matched to your application and
programmed for your vehicle.
MEMCALs
MEMCALS contain an EPROM and other chips or components that must be matched to the application. MEMCALs may contain RESNET resistors, a knock sensor, a second EPROM or any combination of these components. All components must be matched to your vehicle.
